This is a picture of Wally's War Grave in the Rheinberg War Cemetery. I would imagine that this picture was taken shortly after the war, judging by the ground and the cross that was used (the cemetery was opened in April 1946).

Rheinberg was chosen as the site to assemble the war graves from numerous German cemeteries in the surrounding area including Dusseldorf the city raided the night that Wally was killed. Some of those interred at Rheinberg had been first been buried near where their aircraft came down; by a roadside, a river bank,  in a garden or in a forest. There are more than 3000 graves in the cemetery. Wally's grave is one of more than 2000 belonging to British RAF aircrew.

Geographically, the cemetery is near the cities of Krefeld and Wesel and the Rhine river.
